APRIL 2012 and MAY 2012

“Have you ever had the feeling that sometimes the universe is having a laugh on us?”

Hey, did you miss me?
I bet you did?
Don’t lie I know you did?
Sorry about not doing a blog last April because I know you’re lives depend on it, because there are only four things you need in life water, food, shelter and a blog from Orinoco. Damn right, you just say it with me, damn right.
Anyway what is news on the street, well first of all we have a new fan, everyone say hooray, and her name is Lisa and usually I don’t say anyone’s last name but I have to on this one. I asked her what has happened recently in her life and she told me that she had shifted from Melbourne Australia which is on the east to the Wild West of Perth Australia where everyone seems to be digging holes in the ground. Naturally with the name like West she was destined to end up on the opposite side of the country, however the reason she came over was a new opportunity with work which came with a reasonable pay rise.
So off she came with the warm feeling that had landed a great job with a $200,000 pay rise (actually I have no idea what incentive she is on), but she turned up at a historical pub with her partner Kim and she asked for a glass of wine and a pint of beer.
The bartender poured the drinks and said, “200,000 dollars please”.
“What for two glasses,” Lisa said with a shocked looked on her face.
“You’re not from around here?” the bartender added
“I just came in from the east” Lisa proclaimed
“Welcome to Perth, and you still owe me $200,000 for the two pints of beer.”
And of course we would also like to welcome Lisa to the Orinoco family.
Okay now for the music, what has been happening in the month and a bit?
One song was put to bed, “Overdue” which was for an old school friend of Wilko’s and cricket teammate of mine who committed suicide after a long battle with mental health issues. Out of this tragedy a fundraising day is now held to raise money for Graylands hospital which is a mental facility in Perth called the PK Cup.
This song was recorded without drums and basically a big change up to the way the rest of the album is shaping up.
Beau, Roy and I also got together last week to have a jam at Beau’s work. Roy and I had no idea what to expect and when we drove in through a roller door and into a large shed, it felt like we like we were selling stolen cars to some kind of organised crime business. Anyway the little room we finally found ourselves surprised us no end, plus it was free.
So that night we went through two new songs one was completed happily completed, the other I had written and it was never really working, so luckily the rhythm section had other ideas and jammed out a reggae type riff. I put the lyrics to the song that wasn’t working and dadadaaa all done and dusted for recording on the 20th of May.
Except something was going to happen something sinister something grotesque something that was going to delay plans for a small bit and it’s name was FrankleJerry the man who won’t listen to me and command stainless steel bolts in his neck, instead of black steel.
His great granddad Frankenstein only used stainless steel bolts and he lived forever and never had to see a chiropractor. Seriously though Jerry is still struggling after his two operations on his neck and we hope he gets on the mend very quickly, because I so want to parade him at the Royal Show. I will make an absolute fortune.
Plus it actually has worked out for the better because we can now cruise in and record the rough guide on our last songs, after a bit of work in the rehearsal rooms.
So what our next plans besides recording again next month, well I am going to promise that we will do two gigs but the end of the year. Plus the album will be done and dusted by October, (no pressure dude, no pressure at all).
Speaking of pressure, Troy is turning 40 so happy birthday 40 times over.
Also on fans Virginia’s little grandson was rushed to hospital with some health problems but thankfully Finn looks like he is on the mend.

Anyway that is news for April and May and it’s a shame I can’t add June because I would have Daisy Ducks nieces.

Stay Safe
