Orinoco Blog: :THE REIGN OF REANY”

Troy Reany gave it one last shot, a final rehearsal to see if his heart was in it. It was the pre-recording rehearsal of our song Soul Breath hmmm to come to think of it actually it felt like a complete make over. Not quite like the reality TV show makeovers, where the person actually is made to have bath and then learns how to brush their hair.
“Oh My God what is that pretty smell”
“It’s called soap dude, you should try it more often.”
Sorry back on track.
The week had started badly with Beau’s house being robbed, well I think it was that week anyway his house did get knocked over. In a stroke of luck his drum kit was saved. The day of the rehearsal also started badly very, very bad. It was all due to learning that I was flying out of Perth the day rehearsals which were meant to be on the week after. Our normal Big Beat room was all booked up and so all about another three rehearsal rooms businesses around Perth, Wednesday night is always busy.
Luckily I had a bit of help in hand “called my wife” who found a room for us and we were all to meet at 7.30pm. Beau,Wilko,Troy myself Mr Jerry Freedman our arranger. We also had in our presence Mrs Carla Kaplanian our unofficial overseas photographer, (she is American who actually lives in Australia).
Jerry had already had his ideas locked in his head and he began to set each member a task. The changes seemed very small but each member had an adjustment of either a chord, a note or a beat which meant by the end of the night everyone was concentrating on a song that seemed the same but was completely foreign.
It was a very rewarding experience and it is amazing when an outsider comes into a unit with new ideas and how something that seemed good to us became a song that held more depth and this was with just subtle moves.
The night finished well with everyone spent and excited, we exchanged our money for the room. No one ever has the right change, and splitting the bill was always confusing which is the reason none of us work for the Reserve Bank. Except Troy conveniently didn’t have any money.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Roy (Troy) let us know that he no longer had the fire to continue, and so the previous rehearsal was his final jam. He did mention something about having terrible bass lines, Uhmmmm no dude so not true.
Troy’s has amazing bass playing ability with very quick fingers and a very clever slap, funk style. He was with us for probably about six years and unfortunately we never recorded anything properly with him except for a few dodgy live shows and rehearsals.
The times were fun, with some memorable gigs, where once I felt my spine nearly shatter from the extremely loud, vibrating bass amp in a room that was smaller then a New York bathroom.
So the Reign of Reany chapter is now completed but then again who knows.
“And dude you owe ten bucks from the last rehearsal but I’ll count it as a going away present. ”
